1.
Schedule a regular time throughout the week for your family to do a physical activity.
 
2.
Start a log of daily fitness activities and help everyone find something active that makes them feel successful.
 
3.
Wear loose fitting clothing and proper shoes when participating in physical activity.
 
4.
Be sure to warm up, stay flexible by stretching and cool down following your workout.
 
5.
Buy toys or equipment that promotes learning and physical activity.
 
6.
Select fittness-oriented gifts with the recipient’s skills, interest or needs in mind.
 
7.
Limit time spent doing sedentary activities such as watching television, surfng the internet or playing computer/video games.
 
8.
Use physical activity rather than food as a reward (example: family goes roller skating)
 
9.
Emphasize the importance of having fun and learning; avoid a push “to win.”
 
10.
Spend as much time outdoors as possible.
 
11.
“Pack your own” nutritious snacks, drinks and meals for family outings.
 
12.
Keep fresh fruit and vegetables washed, cut, chilled and readily available for post-exercise snacking. Have cold water, juice, or sports drinks available to rehydrate.
 
13.
Take the family grocery shopping so everyone can learn to read the nutrition labels.
 
14.
Volunteer to help with physical activity events at your child’s school.
 
15.
Always use the stairs.
 
16.
Park as far away from the entrance as possible.
 
17.
Discover free and low-cost physical activity areas are near your home (park, bike trail, hiking trail, basketball court, baseball and soccer field, swimming pool, etc).
 
18.
Volunteer to help a neighbor (mow the lawn, rake leaves, shovel snow, clean up yard).
 
19.
Go outside! Ride a bike, hula-hoop, jump rope, run, jog, fly a kite, play a sport, etc.
 
20.
Play hopscotch and organize a family tournament
 
21.
Wash car.
 
22.
Take family or neighbor’s pet for a walk
 
23.
Enjoy a weekend afternoon of physical activities at a local community center.
 
24.
Enter a “Fun Run,” “Bike a Thon” or “Walk-A-Thon”
 
25.
Participate in school related extracurricular activities (i.e. dance, cheerleading, etc)
